I Tested Steam games on the Pixel 10: The Shocking truth

The latest Windows emulators are now available on the Pixel 10, so I decided to test whether the phone could handle PC gaming. After spending time with several emulators, the results were disappointing.

The Tensor G5 Graphics Challenge

The main limitation isn’t the Tensor G5’s processing performance—it’s the graphics compatibility.

Most Windows emulators for Android depend on specialized graphics translation drivers to run PC games. These drivers have been extensively optimized for Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. The Pixel 10’s Tensor G5, however, uses a different GPU architecture, which lacks the same level of community-developed driver support.

Without mature graphics translation drivers, many emulators struggle to function correctly, leading to crashes and poor stability.

PC Games Struggle to Run

To evaluate performance, I tested five lightweight Windows games using the Winlator emulator.

Four games failed to launch and crashed almost immediately. The only title that managed to start ran at roughly seven frames per second, displayed major graphical artifacts, and caused the phone to heat up significantly within a few minutes.

These results show that, in its current state, offline Windows game emulation on the Pixel 10 is far from a smooth experience.

What Actually Works

If your goal is to play PC games on the Pixel 10, cloud or local streaming is the most practical option. Using Steam Link to stream games from a PC delivers a far better experience than attempting to emulate Windows games directly on the device.

The Pixel 10 excels in areas like photography and everyday Android performance, but it is not an ideal choice for offline Windows game emulation. Anyone expecting handheld PC gaming similar to a Steam Deck is likely to be disappointed.
